Why have resorts stopped renting out your weeks to offset maintenance fees?

The main reason is the significant rise in prices for hotels, aparthotels, residences, rental properties, and resort accommodation in general. Resorts are now highly interested in reclaiming your weeks, removing them from the timeshare system, and renting them out at full market rates.

However, they cannot legally rent out your weeks at full price while you remain the owner, because they would either have to transfer the rental income to you or properly account for it in the resort’s management budget — and most club charters simply do not provide for this option.

Many owners have not visited their European resorts or used their timeshare for over five years, starting from the pandemic period.
Of course, exchanges to destinations such as Turkey, Egypt, Thailand, the UAE, Bali, Hainan, and others are still available. But for many owners, the timeshare was purchased specifically for holidays in Europe.
